Experience
WebDepend is owned and managed by Tom Batey, who has 12 years experience in the Internet industry working for digital agencies in Coventry and Bedford.
Starting in February 1998 with a Coventry agency called Internet Solutions 4 Business as employee number 4, Tom started as Customer Service Executive and rose to Customer Services Manager within 4 months. During 3 years with is4b, positions change fairly frequently in order to keep up with the company’s expansion and Nasdaq listing throughout the dot com boom and bust period. Everything from account manager, project manager and customer services manager working with clients such as Mediaweek, Time Computers and many local Coventry and Warwickshire businesses.
In January 2001 Tom started a new business called Look Internet with 2 partners met whilst working at is4b and grew the company from zero to 70 clients in the first 12 months. This attracted the attentions of the Eclipse Group, an IT solutions business based in Hinckley, and a joint venture followed called Eclipse Net Solutions. This new agency offered web site development and search engine optimisation services alongside web hosting and broadband and provided solutions for clients such as RBS and Triumph Motorcycles.
During 2006, Eclipse Group decided to focus on IT Solutions and at the end of the year Tom left to join Evolving Media in Bedford, a fast growing agency with an impressive client list.
Throughout 3 years at Evolving, Tom worked with many clients on large scale web projects including a total of 16 site launches for Intent Media, a B2B publishing company. Tom also managed a project for Imagine Publishing, a consumer publishing company, and launched NowGamer. Amongst other clients were Wells and Youngs, launching web sites for Red Stripe and Courage, Town & City Pub Co. – building a web site for Yates’s, Merrill Legal Solutions – providers of legal services and PEARonline, a secure web-based service for fund raising and reporting.
During those 3 years, Tom moved from being a Senior Account Manager to Account Director and subsequently moved over to the world of Project Management in order to concentrate on the delivery of web projects for clients.
After gaining all that experience, working with large blue-chip clients and starting to focus more on the testing and project management of web projects, Tom decided to leave Evolving in December 2009 and start WebDepend, which began trading on January, 4th 2010.
What better way to start a new decade.
