Overview

Atarim were referred to us from an existing client, they were in need of testing for new releases and some big new features as soon as possible, as they executed their ambitous roadmap and increased the number of new users.

Challenge

Atarim wanted to push out new features for their SaaS platform and growing userbase but were getting bogged down by not having dedicated testers on the team. Product team members were spending time testing instead of directing product updates and too many bugs were reaching production and frustrating users.

Atarim needed to move faster and asked for our help to do that.

Testing a SaaS

A SaaS that provides complex features that can be used in a multitude of different ways requires a lot of testing and that is exactly what Atarim needed. Their visual collaboration platform needed to work well with a wide variety of different websites and web technologies, which meant being able to cover a lot of different scenarios across a range of browsers and devices.

With new features being added to an existing platform, there is a lot of potential for major impact on existing functionality. We spent a lot of time thinking about the risks and exploring the affected areas, raising bugs where the new feature was causing problems. This is especially evident when there are different user types and certain users should not have access or should have restricted access to those features.

What we often find is that a restricted user would often be able to access parts of the platform that they should not and so a great deal of testing for different users across different types of accounts needs to be carried out.

Solution

We put 2 testers to work straightaway, initially covering a sweep of the whole application to gain some knowledge and understanding, before embarking on the big new feature work.

As new features and releases were ready for testing we stepped in to test in short bursts due to quick turnarounds on projects. We provided guidance on processes related to testing and handling feedback whilst also verifying fixed bugs and carrying out regression testing of whole releases prior to launch.

Bugs were raised in our Testing Manager application before being synced to Teamwork and then later switching from Teamwork to Jira, as Atarim's development team and processes matured.

Results

We introduced Atarim to what a full testing function feels like and the amount of feedback to expect from having dedicated testers focused on testing a release.

We were instrumental in helping Atarim on a number of important releases for the business, including a new Chrome extension, new Workspaces and testing across the whole platform. Overall we raised hundreds of bugs and assisted developers and product managers with verifying issues and release preparation.
